Kids Rock Cancer was recently featured on the popular social media account Humans of St. Louis!
Humans of St. Louis, which has a team of more than two dozen photographers and editors, describes itself as “a collaborative effort and a gift for the city. Our mission is to create a respectful online community and share stories of St. Louis for St. Louis.”
The May 3 posts showcased senior music therapist Tracie Sandheinrich and 21-year-old KRC rock star Jeilon Musaddiq. Jeilon, Kids Rock Cancer’s 38th overall participant, has written several songs about his treatment for sickle cell, including “Just Like a Boomerang” and “Brighter Than the Sun.”
“Jeilon has been in and out of the hospital, and so we’ve had to push back the interview a few times,” Tracie says. “I’m so glad we waited, because his story, as a sickle cell patient and as a Kids Rock Cancer rock star, is so impactful.
“Jeilon has been able to positively express himself through music and therapeutic songwriting, but this interview gave him another platform, which he used to advocate for other kids and young adults with sickle cell disease in the St. Louis community. We’re so proud to have him be part of our Kids Rock Cancer family!”
